Should you keep your current job for a pay-rise?

One of the most common reasons someone doesn’t take that job that they said they wanted, is that their employer has offered them more money to stay.

Or maybe they’ve been offered a promotion, some more responsibilities, extra holiday, permission to bring your dog to work, or a change of line management.

There’s loads of ‘things’ that an employer can offer you to stay. But the questions is… should you?

If some of these jobs are within the same organisation, then the average person might only actually leave one employer for another a hand-full of times, maybe only having to write a letter of resignation a couple of times in their lifetime!

Compared to those in USA that on average will have experienced around 12 jobs in their lifetime! Americans are also likely to be more satisfied in their career, with 65% saying they’re happy in their job, compared to 54% in the UK.

So maybe instead of asking ‘should I stay’… if given the opportunity, you could ask ‘why aren’t you going!?’ And maybe… just maybe… even more money, more opportunities, more friendships and maybe the love of your life… is just around the corner.
