Should you keep your current job for a pay-rise?

Should you keep your current job for a pay-rise?

One of the most common reasons someone doesn’t take that job that they said they wanted, is that their employer has offered them more money to stay.

Or maybe they’ve been offered a promotion, some more responsibilities, extra holiday, permission to bring your dog to work, or a change of line management.

There’s loads of ‘things’ that an employer can offer you to stay. But the questions is… should you?

So, stating the obvious… you do what’s best for you!

We’re here to help you find that perfect job, to do something different, to jump onto a new career path and meet new people.

New new new… all sounds very exciting! But we know that new can be unknown and scary, and that’s something we can help you with – by finding out everything about your next employer so there’s no, or fewer, surprises around the corner.

If it’s about the money and perks, and not wanting to do something different, the best thing to do is be honest with us and your current employer.

We can be sure to only find you opportunities that are a lot more money. Or maybe we can advise you on how to develop your CV or your experience so that you’re ready for that next big role.

But also, sitting down with your current employer and having ‘that discussion’ about you deserving a pay-rise, or being ready for more responsibilities… maybe you’ll get that money and promotion sooner rather than later!

Think about what you could be missing

The average person in the UK experiences only SIX jobs in their lifetime.
(study by AAT)

If some of these jobs are within the same organisation, then the average person might only actually leave one employer for another a hand-full of times, maybe only having to write a letter of resignation a couple of times in their lifetime!

Compared to those in USA that on average will have experienced around 12 jobs in their lifetime! Americans are also likely to be more satisfied in their career, with 65% saying they’re happy in their job, compared to 54% in the UK.

So maybe instead of asking ‘should I stay’… if given the opportunity, you could ask ‘why aren’t you going!?’ And maybe… just maybe… even more money, more opportunities, more friendships and maybe the love of your life… is just around the corner.

In a nutshell… you do what’s best for you!

We’re here to help you find that perfect job, to do something different, to jump onto a new career path and meet new people.
